City Teaching Alliance Admissions Process

  • Online Application
    • Upload a copy of your resume and answer the two prompts to submit your application by September 28.
  • Meet with a Recruiter
    • Meet with a recruiter before pressing submit on your application to learn more about the Signature Model, your region, program expectations, financial-support options, and the application process.
    • This conversation is your opportunity to ask questions and make sure you understand the pathway before you move forward.
  • Phone Interview
    • Select applicants advance directly to the final interview, while some will have a supplemental phone interview between October 1st and 6th.
  • Submit Application Materials
    • Submit a copy of your undergraduate transcripts and two recommenders before the final interview.
  • Final Interview
    • Participate in a 90-minute virtual interview and deliver a mock teaching lesson to your interviewers between October 13th and 17th.
  • Prepare for Enrollment
    • If you are admitted, the City Teaching Alliance team will guide you through next steps related to your region, University Partner match, financial-support options, employment or placement requirements, certification preparation, and program onboarding starting June 2027.

Tyler Groves serves as the State Manager of Recruitment and Enrollment for City Teaching Alliance in Maryland. He brings nearly a decade of diverse professional experience to the role, spanning from teaching through AmeriCorps to strategic communications and outreach work in politics and government. Tyler holds a bachelor’s degree in Classics, History and Political Science from Binghamton University. Outside of his dedicated work recruiting and enrolling the next generation of educators at City Teaching Alliance, he is an avid world traveler who loves planning his next city or country expedition.

Claice Blanco
Recruitment Manager

Claice Blanco is a Recruitment Manager at City Teaching Alliance. A first-generation college student, Claice is driven by a deep belief in the power of education to change lives. She brings nearly a decade of experience in urban education to her work, having served as a high school math teacher in both general and special education before moving into program leadership. Claice holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Howard University, and is passionate about guiding the next generation of educators as they turn their calling into a career and make a lasting impact in the classrooms and communities that need them most.

AJ is a National Recruitment Manager and mission-driven talent leader dedicated to connecting aspiring teachers with opportunities to create meaningful change in the classroom. Through his work in talent acquisition, AJ helps individuals discover pathways into education where they can use their skills, experiences, and passion to support students and strengthen communities.

AJ is passionate about mission-driven work and brings a thoughtful, relationship-centered approach to recruitment. Criteria for Program Eligibility

Admissions

Prospective educators must:

  • Earn a bachelor’s degree by June 2027.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • City Teaching Alliance can only accept applicants who are a citizen or national of the United States, permanent residents of the United States, or a DACA recipient.
Criteria for Program Eligibility

International Students

  • Applicants with a degree from a foreign university must have their transcript evaluated course-by-course and translated into English by a recognized agency.
  • The only exception would be degrees or credits earned at a Canadian higher education institution. We do not require an international course-by-course evaluation if (1) the transcript is in English, and (2) the institution is a member of Universities Canada [formerly the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC)] or other accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Can paraprofessionals and teacher’s assistants apply?

If you are already supporting students in a school-based role, City Teaching Alliance can help you explore whether the Signature Model and available certification pathways are a fit for your experience and region.

I don’t have any teaching experience. Can I still apply?

Yes. Many aspiring educators bring experience from other fields. The Signature Model is designed to support a structured transition into teaching through classroom practice, graduate learning, coaching, certification support, and care-centered resources.

What happens after I submit my application?

The admissions team will review your materials and communicate next steps. Depending on your application stage, you may be invited to a supplemental phone interview, submit additional materials, participate in a virtual video interview, or complete another required step.

When should I apply?

Apply as soon as you can! The earlier in the season you apply, the more likely you are to get your top regional and subject/grade level preferences.
