Candace Smith
Regional Executive Director in DC and Baltimore. Candace Smith’s career is rooted in the DC education sector, first as a teacher, and now as Executive Director of City Teaching Alliance’s DC program, as well as Interim Executive Director of the Baltimore site. Prior to stepping into her role as ED, Candace was the inaugural DC Assistant Director of City Teaching Alliance for six years and played an integral role in expanding the impact of the program, significantly growing the incoming cohort and the number of school partnerships. Prior to joining City Teaching Alliance, Candace was an early childhood educator. Over her five years with Friendship Public Charter School’s Chamberlain campus, she taught kindergarten, was a grade-level team leader, held an active role on the instructional leadership team, and was a host teacher for City Teaching Alliance, where she first observed the growth potential for educators in a rigorous residency model. Candace earned a B.A. from the University of Chicago and her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from American University. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband, Henry, 8-year old daughter, Caroline, and dog, Lola.
