City Teaching Alliance is turning 15! As we celebrate 15 years of transforming urban education, we’re highlighting 15 incredible milestones that reflect our journey:
15. We’ve had the honor of training and supporting 15 cohorts of passionate educators who are making a difference in classrooms across the country from our very first cohorts to today’s.
14. 140 dedicated teachers in the City Teaching Alliance pathway in Baltimore last year! Our Residents, Fellows, Senior Fellows, and Alumni work hard every single day to make a lasting impact in their classrooms and communities.
13. Nearly 13…..00 educators have completed three or more years of the City Teaching Alliance pathway! Their commitment to improve urban education is making a lasting difference in schools across the country.
12. Just $12 for 12 months. That’s what we’re encouraging our supporters to commit to in honor of our 15th year. Ongoing support makes a real difference in the lives of our educators and the students they inspire, all year long.
11. In the 2023-2024 school year, over 11,000 students in DC were taught by City Teaching Alliance educators! It is our vision that every student in the United States is taught by committed, well-prepared, and culturally responsive educators.
10. Only 1 in 10 US public school teachers identify as Black (7%), Hispanic (9%), or Asian American (2%) according to a recent Pew study. Yet, research shows that teachers of color are linked to better academic, social-emotional, and behavioral student outcomes. At City Teaching Alliance, we’re committed to changing these numbers and building a diverse teacher force.
9. We’re proud to share that an estimated 91% of educators who completed our pathway are still working in education! At City Teaching Alliance, we’re committed to setting our teachers up for long-term success in the classroom. Through our comprehensive training and support, we aim to combat teacher burnout and equip our educators to make a lasting impact in their school communities.
8. For 8 years, City Teaching Alliance has proudly served the Dallas community, empowering teachers to create meaningful change in urban classrooms. Nearly 80,000 students have been taught by City Teaching Alliance educators in Dallas since 2016! We are proud that our teachers are shaping Dallas’s next generation of leaders and thinkers.
7. At City Teaching Alliance, we believe that representation matters, and we’re proud that 76% of our Cohort 2024 Residents identify as Black and/or Latinx! By uplifting educators who reflect the diversity of their students, we are fostering equitable and culturally responsive classrooms, so every student can thrive.
6. We’re incredibly grateful that 68% of revenue generated last fiscal year came from our generous donors and grants! Your support allows us to continue empowering and preparing our incredible educators! Together, we are accelerating student achievement and disrupting systems of racial and socioeconomic inequity.
5. 5 years of the Black Educators Initiative (BEI)! Our commitment to increasing the number of Black teachers in classrooms is stronger than ever. We understand the financial barriers that make pursuing teaching challenging, which is why the Black Educators Initiative (BEI) has provided scholarships and grants for our BEI-eligible teachers for the past 5 years. By empowering Black educators, we are working toward a more equitable education system for all!
4. Our 4 sites! Since our founding, City Teaching Alliance has expanded across the US, from Baltimore and DC to Dallas and Philadelphia. With each expansion, we get closer to our vision of ensuring that every student in the United States has a committed, well-prepared, culturally responsive teacher in their classroom.
3. For 3 years, City Teaching Alliance has proudly served the Philadelphia community, empowering teachers to create meaningful change in urban classrooms. We now have 33 school sites and 3 school partnerships across the city. Our educators are building a brighter future for students in Philly, one lesson at a time.
2. We’re thrilled to celebrate 2 years of partnership with American University! After completing the second year of our pathway, residents receive a Master’s in Education from American University’s School of Education. This partnership lays a strong foundation for our residents’ and fellows’ teaching careers and empowers them to enter the classroom well-prepared.
1. 1 mission, and it is clear: empowering educators and transforming futures. At City Teaching Alliance, we are dedicated to improving the educational and life outcomes of children in urban schools by preparing culturally responsive and effective career educators. Together, we accelerate student achievement and work to disrupt systems of racial and socioeconomic inequity.
