WELCOME DR. RAHESHA AMON!
Greetings from a new Summer Institute and fiscal year at City Teaching Alliance! As valued supporters and friends of our organization and educators, you make our milestone moments possible. Today, I’m thrilled to share yet another: Following an extensive recruitment process, Dr. Rahesha Amon has joined us as the new Chief Executive Officer of City Teaching Alliance.
Dr. Amon truly embodies our mission and values and possesses the expertise and vision to lead us into our next chapter. She joins us following 30 tremendous years of service with the New York City Department of Education, most recently as Senior Executive Director of School Support and Operations and previously as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, founding principal, superintendent, and central office leader.
Our Board of Directors chose Dr. Amon to help shape the future of our Alliance because:
- She is a career educator. From her early years as an award-winning classroom teacher to her management of a $90M+ budget and her work across public and nonprofit spaces, she truly understands and is proximate to the work we are seeking to do here, both programmatically and as a forward-thinking non-profit with an ambitious, transformational mission.
- She leads with both head and heart. In every interaction with our team, she has emphasized transparency, inclusivity, and proximity as key elements of her past successes and envisioned future work with our Alliance. This approach is evident not only in her work with the NYC Department of Education, but in the myriad ways she has leaned into collective learning and change-making as a civic leader – regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- She is a connector who builds change-making, cross-sector partnerships to advance our shared commitment to improving educational and life outcomes for our children through the power of well-prepared, culturally responsive educators. As an authentic storyteller, avid brand ambassador, and purposeful collaborator, she will bring new voice and energy to our Alliance, locally and nationally.
On a personal note, it has been a pleasure to serve alongside our Chief Program Officer Kenneth McCants-Pearsall as Interim Co-CEO over the past several months, and we have deeply appreciated your steadfast support. With your partnership, our team has grown our program enrollment in every city, strengthened our financial model, and engaged in deep learning and reflection to inform our future plans. Now, we could not be more excited to welcome Dr. Amon as our Chief Executive and double down on this momentum. We know our incredible network of practitioners and partners stands ready to – in her words – design the future of City Teaching Alliance together.
Thank you again for all that you do to make our – and our educators’ – important work possible. We look forward to continued partnership in the coming school year, and to a dynamic new chapter with Dr. Amon!
With gratitude,
Laura Fogliano
Chief Advancement Officer
