Alliance Newsletter

FROM DR. RAHESHA AMON, CEO

Dear Friends and Partners,

As a former classroom teacher, I understand firsthand the challenges professional educators face today. Recently, I shared some thoughts on LinkedIn about the State of American Teacher survey reported by The Wall Street Journal. The findings confirmed what many of us already know—our nation’s teachers are facing increased stress and declining morale. This reality fuels my work every day at City Teaching Alliance, where we are dedicated to developing career educators fully prepared for the complexities of teaching. You can read my full post here.

In this month’s newsletter, we’re highlighting some of our incredible educators whose dedication to equity and education continues to inspire us all. We’re also celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month across our social media channels. I invite you to join me on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook to see how we’re reflecting on the diverse communities we serve and honoring the Hispanic and Latinx trailblazers who are shaping future generations!

With DAF Day approaching on October 10th, we’re also sharing insights into the importance of Donor-Advised Funds and how they can be leveraged to support our mission. As the school year kicks off, now is a perfect time to consider showing your support for the educators who are making a difference every day.

Together, we are building brighter futures, one classroom at a time. As always, please feel free to forward this newsletter to friends in your network who share our passion for education, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly by replying to this email.

Warm regards,

Dr. Rahesha Amon
CEO, City Teaching Alliance

DAF DAY IS OCTOBER 10TH!

City Teaching Alliance is collaborating in the launch of the first-ever DAF Day and generous partners are doubling the excitement with matches that could multiply many donors’ gifts! This movement comes at a critical time for our mission at City Teaching Alliance. We are preparing our residents to become career educators who are ready to overcome the classroom challenges that have underprepared teachers exiting the field.

In addition to the impact DAF Day enables, we are excited to announce a generous matching opportunity through a City Teaching Alliance partnership for grants allocated to teacher finances, access, and affordability. Ahead of DAF Day on October 10th, City Teaching Alliance and DAF Day are encouraging donors with a DAF to sign up on DAFday.com to support our transformative work:

  • Affirm you will make at least one DAF gift on October 10.
  • Share how much you hope to give from your DAF in one day.
  • Name City Teaching Alliance as the nonprofit you plan to support, demonstrating your commitment to education!

If you’re interested in learning more about how a DAF could multiply your personal giving capacity, please reach out to Lyn Rumage, Managing Director of Development at Lyn.Rumage@CityTeachingAlliance.org.

OTHER HAPPENINGS

Baltimore Screens Film: The Right to Read

On September 10th, our Baltimore site partnered with the New Song Community Learning Center to view The Right to Read alongside participant teachers, host teachers, school partners, families, and community organizers. The film documents the efforts of families, teachers, and advocates across various states in their struggle for their children’s right to read. This popular documentary affirms reading as a fundamental civil right and emphasizes phonics-based instruction for all students. Moderated by City Teaching Alliance’s Director of Literacy, the event fostered a space for a lively discussion with the panelists and audience members around the importance of the Science of Reading and equitable literacy instruction.

We hope you will stay connected with us, our students, our educators, and our schools as we – and our growing network of powerful practitioners – continue to learn, innovate, and co-create the future of teaching and learning in our communities.

We never share our mailing lists with outside organizations.

Please help us grow our City Teaching Alliance family by sharing this newsletter with your friends, business partners, and community thought leaders!
