August is Black Philanthropy Month: a global celebration of giving, leadership, and community investment that uplifts the powerful traditions of generosity within Black communities. It’s a great time to reflect on the impact of collective action and to honor the countless individuals and organizations who give boldly to create opportunity and justice.
Within this month of celebration comes Give 8/28, a national day of giving dedicated to supporting Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits. This day spotlights the essential work of organizations advancing equity across education, health, arts, business, and beyond.
At City Teaching Alliance, we are proud to be part of this movement. Our organization is proudly led by lifelong educator and visionary, Dr. Rahesha Amon, a Black woman and national education leader, who is deeply committed to equity in education and ensuring teachers are equipped to meet the needs of their students. Guided by her vision, our mission is to prepare and sustain bold, community-rooted educators, many of whom are first-generation graduates and educators of color, who bring representation, cultural responsiveness, and long-term commitment to the classrooms that need them most.
Philanthropy has always been about more than just donations. It’s about believing in the power of communities to transform themselves, and it’s about honoring the legacy of giving that has sustained progress for generations.
