Join City Teaching Alliance on DAF Day

Unlock billions in philanthropic dollars

[Baltimore, MD] [October 1, 2024]This October, City Teaching Alliance is collaborating in the launch of the first-ever DAF Day and a generous match that could multiply many donors’ gifts is doubling the excitement.

DAFs are a tax-advantaged charitable giving account, similar to a 401(k) for retirement or a Health Saving Account (HSA) for health care expenses. DAFs have expanded in recent years with the number of accounts growing 9 times since 2012. In 2022, $52 billion was disbursed.

This movement comes at a critical time for the mission at City Teaching Alliance. The nonprofit organization is disrupting educational inequities and improving life outcomes of children across the country by preparing culturally responsive, effective educators. City Teaching Alliance educators have served more than 400,000 students and have been placed in nearly 500 urban schools as of the 2023-24 school year.

With $230 billion already set aside for giving in DAF accounts in the US, the potential for organizations like City Teaching Alliance is immense. In addition to the impact DAF Day enables, we are excited to announce a generous matching opportunity. A gift to City Teaching Alliance designated to teacher finances, access, and affordability will be matched 1-1 up to $100,000 per gift.

“We are able to fulfill our mission because of the generosity of our donors, whose support ensures that every child has access to a high-quality education,” said Dr. Rahesha Amon, CEO of City Teaching Alliance. “DAF Day offers a powerful opportunity to provide our children with the gift of well-prepared, effective teachers and the promise of an equitable education.”

Ahead of DAF Day on Thursday, October 10th, City Teaching Alliance and DAF Day are encouraging donors with a DAF to sign up on DAFday.com to support our transformative work:

  • Affirm you will make at least one DAF gift on October 10.
  • Share how much you hope to give from your DAF in one day.
  • Name City Teaching Alliance as the nonprofit you plan to support, demonstrating your commitment to education!
