American Landmark Apartments Partners with Urban Teachers to Provide Housing for Early Career Educators in Dallas

DALLAS — American Landmark Apartments, one of the fastest-growing multifamily owner-operators in the country, announces that it has partnered with Urban Teachers [City Teaching Alliance], a non-profit group dedicated to preparing, certifying and supporting new educators in urban communities. As part of the partnership, American Landmark will provide up to 128 aspiring educators in Urban Teachers’ [City Teaching Alliance] residency program affordably priced places to live at the company’s apartment communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

With rents soaring 15.3% over the last year in Dallas-Fort Worth market, the partnership between Urban Teachers [City Teaching Alliance] and American Landmark ensures that early-career teachers have access to high-quality housing which, in turn, allows them to focus exclusively on their mission of improving the educational and life outcomes of children in urban schools and dismantling racial and socioeconomic barriers in urban education.

American Landmark Apartments has had a presence in Dallas for over 20 years, and owns and manages approximately 16 high-quality apartment communities throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Participants in the Urban Teachers [City Teaching Alliance] residency program will receive priority placement in a one- or two-bedroom apartment, at a greatly reduced monthly rental rate, for the one-year lease term.

“The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country. Its vitality and continued growth are dependent upon the availability of highly trained teachers and high-quality homes for its residents,” said Joe Lubeck, American Landmark Apartments CEO. “We are delighted to play an integral role in this exceptional teacher recruitment program, and in the future of the area by making these aspiring educators feel welcomed, respected and connected to the community.”

“Participants in our program come to the Dallas/Fort Worth area because they want to make a difference in the lives of children there,” said Urban Teachers [City Teaching Alliance] CEO Peter Shulman. “We are grateful to American Landmark for supporting these educators on that journey. Having access to reliable, affordable housing means our teachers can stay focused on learning to teach in a way that honors and celebrates all children in their classrooms.”

Quanis Freeman, an Urban Teachers [City Teaching Alliance] Resident, said their last apartment didn’t feel safe and wasn’t conducive to being a strong teacher. “I wasn’t getting sleep; I wasn’t giving my students the best that I could give them,” said Freeman. “A lot of apartment complexes wanted us to make three times the rent, and it was just too much. We didn’t have the resources to live somewhere better.”

American Landmark helped Freeman move into one of their properties in Dallas. “American Landmark made me feel included,” she added. “It made me feel like my life matters; like all of the people who played a part in making this happen value me and what I do in the classroom.”

Urban Teachers [City Teaching Alliance] is accepting applications now for its residency program beginning in June, 2022. Prospective teachers must earn a bachelor’s degree by June 2022, maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher and exhibit key core competencies including relationship-building, valuing students and communities and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and anti-racism.  To apply, aspiring educators can visit:  www.urbanteachers.org/become-a-teacher.
